Joe and Jennifer Argenas want to sell their ice cream store.

But not to just anyone.

They own Twisters Soft Serve Ice Cream on Main Street in Bloomfield. The couple is looking for the new owner to continue the business of serving quality soft and hard ice cream, milkshakes, Italian ice and even sundaes for pets.

The store is open daily from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“Everyone loves ice cream, and our customers love our ice cream,” Jennifer Argenas said. “They’ve told us they are sad we want to sell. Some have been coming here for years. We know what they want when they walk up to the window.”

The couple has run the store for 22 seasons from the end of March to the second week of October (this year they will finish at the first week of October because their son is getting married the next week).

If they don’t find a successor, they are committed to come back next season, they said. The Bloomfield natives, who now live in Ross, said it was a dream to own an ice cream store. It opened the year they were married. They’ve raised two children, a daughter who is in college and their son (who’s getting married).

“I am sad,” Jennifer Argenas said. “But we are ready for a change. Both our children are grown and there are things we want to do.”

Joe Argenas said the asking price is $350,000, which includes the business, the equipment and supplies.

The couple owns the building and is open to being the landlord or selling it for an additional $200,000. His hope is for it to continue to be a part of the neighborhood where the community enjoys a vanilla, chocolate or twist cone, hence the name, as well as one of the dozen hard ice cream flavors made by Hershey which includes a sugar-free and dairy-free option.

There are eight flavors of Italian ice such as lemon, cherry, rainbow and mango, which is a favorite. They sell a flurry, which is ice cream mixed with items such as peanut butter cups and cookies and cream.

The couple said they use 6% butter fat in their chocolate, vanilla and twist soft-serve ice cream which gives it a better flavor. Joe Argenas said their soft-serve ice cream is good just by itself. They add chocolate sauce, whipped cream and other toppings to complement the rich flavor of the ice cream.

A Puppy Sundae is soft serve with peanut butter drizzle — and a milk bone. Jennifer Argenas said she sees dogs across the street trying to get their owners to bring them to the ice cream shop.

“This is a great business for another family to come along and take over,” Joe Argenas said. “They can keep it going. We want to see it continue to be an ice cream store for another 22 years and longer. It takes a lot of time and effort, but it’s been a wonderful business for us. It’s time to turn the page and start a new chapter.”
