Choolaah Indian BBQ, a fast casual Indian barbecue-style restaurant, is opening a second Pittsburgh-area location.

The newest location will open June 9 in North Fayette. The first area Choolaah opened in East Liberty in 2018.

Choolaah means “oven” in Hindi.

Jay Nesbitt, chief creative officer for Choolaah Indian BBQ, said the motto is “Choolaah is yum for everyone.”

“Think exotically familiar,” he said. “Comfortably non-conformist. Bright, fresh and crazy-craveable meals that are made by hand, served with a smile and devoured with joy.”

Nesbitt said they chose North Fayette for another restaurant because the area is growing and easily accessible.

“Our vision is to transform the quality of life of everyone we touch,” Nesbitt said. “We use Indian food as the vehicle to do this.”

The company was upgrading its online ordering system for curbside pickup and to-go orders when the pandemic hit.

“It was like performing heart surgery on a person who’s still running,” said co-CEO Raji Sankar, in a statement. “But the amazing support of our customers and the industry’s big pivot to delivery and curbside inspired us to stay the course.”
