The founder of a popular Strip District bakery and cafe has died.
Larry Lagattuta, who left a corporate job three decades ago to open The Enrico Biscotti Co., died on Monday, according to a post by his family on social media. He was 65.
Family members said Lagattuta was passionate about baking and took a chance when he opened the bakery on Penn Avenue.
While the staple of Lagattuta’s business was the delicious oblong Italian almond biscuits, or biscotti, he also shared his skill and passion by regularly hosting bread-baking classes.
Lagattuta gained a following by regularly leading culinary tours through Italy.
Funeral arrangements for Lawrence “Larry” Anthony Lagattuta are being handled by Beinhaur Funeral Home in Dormont.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home at 2630 West Liberty Ave.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church at 57 21st St. in the Strip District.
