In its first week of operation, Mineo’s Pizza House Allison Park is temporarily closed.

A social media post said “due to staff shortage and the overwhelming demand, we are temporarily closing until we are fully staffed.”

Dominic Mineo, who co-owns the business with his brother Giovanni Mineo Jr., said Monday that they had a record week in the more than six decades of the pizza business.

“It is very frustrating to have to shut down for a few days,” Mineo said. “I have never had to shut down my business.”

Mineo said by 5:30 p.m. on Sunday they ran out of food and had to turn people away.

They also don’t have enough staff. Friends have been coming by to help. Mineo said 95 percent of the customers have been understanding of the situation.

He said they hope to reopen later this week.

“I knew it would be crazy,” he said. “But I never imagined this. This is insane.”

Mineo said to check social media for hours and a reopening date. He said he needs to hire servers, pizza makers, prep workers and takeout window workers.

Since the third location opened on May 2 on Wildwood Road in the former Tuscany Inn, people have been waiting in the parking lot, at the takeout window and on the steps at the entrance.

The restaurant was three years in the making because of delays from the pandemic. The original paperwork was signed on May 5, 2019.

“Come and join an awesome family that takes care of its employees,” Mineo said. “Please, come and join our staff. We are thankful for the overwhelming response, and we are doing the best we can. We love our customers.”
