A half-century of history is just the beginning for the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, according to speakers at a 50th anniversary open house held Oct. 25 at the facility. On the horizon is remodeling of the third-floor penthouse suite to provide more event space, said Terry Reese, chairman of the board of the Westmoreland Cultural Trust, which oversees the center.

He invited attendees to check out the suite, saying, “The view is just stunning, and I’ve been assured that when remodeling is completed, the interior will be just as stunning.”

The open house provided guests the opportunity to get up close and personal with the facility itself and with representatives of the organizations that currently keep offices there, including CityReach Greensburg, Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, Greensburg Civic Theatre, Greensburg College Club, Greensburg Garden Center, Westmoreland Suzuki School of Music and Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra and Academy of Music.

The event also included proclamations from the Westmoreland County Commissioners and state Sen. Kim Ward and reminiscences from Greensburg Mayor Robb Bell.

In attendance were trust CEO April Kopas, GGCC events and facilities manager Jan Barsoum, Linda McKenna Boxx, Zan McKenna Rich, Nancy Anderson, Teresa Baughman, Endy Reindl, Kelli Brisbane, Jess and Joan Stairs, Dr. George and Linda Austin, George Shaner and Michael Philopena, Linda Assard, Carl and Carmen Eisaman, Michaelene McWhinney, Carla Rusnica, Elizabeth Pesci, Paul and Diane Nickoloff, Greg Barsoum, Barb Rolla, Margaret Ryan and Michael Matteo.
