As event cancellations mounted, driven by coronavirus concerns, leaders of the Greensburg-Jeannette NAACP forged ahead with the organization’s Annual NAACP Prayer Breakfast.
The event, held March 14 in the Ramada by Wyndham Greensburg Hotel and Conference Center, carried this heartening theme: “Prayer: Your Weapon of Warfare.”
Conveying the message was the Rev. Carmen Holt, associate pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Pittsburgh. Holt’s scripture reference was Isaiah 54:17, which begins, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.”
Holt called prayer the key to success and the go-to spiritual weapon “to overcome every instance of warfare you are involved in.”
Providing inspiration through music was Tonya Carrington, a professional gospel singer from Jeannette, who sang “Nothing Else” and “Give Me Jesus” — the latter a reminder, she said, that “he’s the one who holds all of our tomorrows in his hands.”
Branch President Ruth Tolbert and Religious Affairs Chairwoman Adrienne Russell welcomed guests. Also on the program were Norma Skillings, Dr. Robin Sims and the Rev. Prudence Harris.
