As a way to bid farewell to 2019, it was the cat’s meow. Really.
On Dec. 31, guests at Greensburg’s Cattfeinated Cat Cafe counted down to 2020 at a Purring 20s New Year’s Eve Party.
A group of swells in their party best braved snow squalls to visit the speakeasy-themed benefit for Wayward Whiskers Animal Rescue. There were finger foods and soft drinks (sorry, no bathtub gin), vintage jazz and silent movies, along with a midnight champagne toast — and, of course, the cool cats.
Opened in November by Katelynn and Rob Jones of Greensburg, the cafe offers coffee drinks, pastries, locally crafted wares and a chance to visit with adoptable felines in two well-appointed cat lounges.
Party guest Sharyn Kmeiciak of Everson sat in one lounge as kittens raced around, played with toys, boxed each other and took petting breaks in her lap. So entranced was she that, before the clock struck midnight, she was filling out an adoption application.
Rob Jones said that opening the cafe was Katelynn’s idea and he was just a bit skeptical, but community response has been positive “beyond my wildest expectations.” They recently had a call from a woman whose website lists cat cafes all across the United States.
Lori Stripay greeted attendees, while Dino and Melissa Bonifazi and Bob and Tam Guth were in charge of serving.
