The reviews were in at the Aug. 9 after-theater cabaret at the Saint Vincent Summer Theatre at Saint Vincent College — “Always … Patsy Cline” was a big hit!
The musical portrays the true story of superfan Louise Seger’s unlikely friendship with her musical idol, starting with a chance meeting at a Texas honky tonk and lasting until the country singer’s untimely death. It wrapped up Aug. 11, concluding the theater’s 51st season.
The two-woman show featured Greta Kleckner doing Cline’s music proud and Becky Barta providing commentary — and comic relief — as Seger. Cabaret guests had a chance to meet and greet the New York-based performers.
Producer/artistic director Greggory Brandt took a moment during the cabaret to reflect on the season, saying it exceeded his expectations in ticket sales, in drawing a younger crowd via the season’s second production, “Beauty and the Beast,” and in the opportunities he had to meet with both longtime and new patrons.
“The bar has been raised. Now we have to keep the momentum going,” he said.
Serving the cabaret’s signature popcorn and hot dogs were Saint Vincent students Lorenzo Cota, Logan Wade, Tre Telfort, Taylor Berardi, Maeve Milligan, Micah Harris and Aubrey Cintron. Alumna Megan Paullet entertained with vocals, guitar and keyboard.
