A Pittsburgh man died early Friday morning after being shot in the head in the city’s Hill District neighborhood, police said.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Anthony Young, 35. A cause and manner of death has not yet been determined.

Pittsburgh police from Zone 2 were dispatched at about 12:30 a.m. to the 2500 block of Bedford Avenue, near the intersection of Bedford Avenue and Watt Lane in the Bedford Dwellings section of the Hill District, police spokeswoman Emily Bourne said.

The ShotSpotter gun detection system recorded three alerts and nine total rounds of gunfire there, she said.

When they arrived, police found Young in the street with a gunshot wound to the head, she said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:41 a.m., the medical examiner said.

The police bureau’s mobile crime unit is processing evidence, including video footage and recovered shell casings, Bourne said. No arrests have been announced.

The investigation is ongoing.
