A Duquesne Light employee who was working in an underground maintenance hole Sunday was hurt after a cable failed, according to Pittsburgh police and company officials.

Officers and paramedics were called to New Beaver Avenue in Marshall-Shadeland around 11 a.m. for a reported explosion. The male worker was hospitalized in stable condition for treatment of burns to his face, police said. There was no evidence of live electrical contact, according to the utility.

“The safety of our employees and customers is always our top priority and our thoughts go out to this employee, his family and his colleagues,” officials from Duquesne Light said in a statement.

An investigation is underway. There were no other injuries. Electrical service was not affected.
