One person was shot and killed and a second person was injured Tuesday morning in the city’s Hill District.
Police and medics responded to 911 calls about a shooting and a ShotSpotter alert in the 2500 block of Bedford Avenue at about 11 a.m., Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesman Maurice Matthews said.
First responders arrived to find a male victim in the street who had been shot in the chest, Matthews said.
He was identified as Randy Edwards, 33, of Pittsburgh, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office.
Medics rushed the shooting Edwards to a nearby UPMC Mercy Hospital in critical condition, and he died at 11:24 a.m., the medical examiner’s office said.
While police investigated the crime scene, another person with a gunshot wound showed up at a local hospital’s emergency department.
“The second victim was listed as stable,” Matthews said. “There were no other injuries at the scene or suspect descriptions.”

Then, shortly before noon, a vehicle believed to belong to a suspect in the Bedford Avenue shooting was spotted outside a multi-unit residential structure in the 2600 block of Tilbury Avenue, Matthews said. The vehicle was registered to an address in the same block.
Pittsburgh police’s SWAT officers were called to the residence.
After some residents exited and spoke to police, SWAT operators ordered anyone else inside the building to come out. No suspects were found.
“SWAT eventually gained access and did a thorough search to verify there were no other occupants inside,” Matthews said.
Officials have not released any suspect descriptions nor announced any arrests as of Tuesday night.
Pittsburgh police’s crime scene and violent crime unit detectives continue to investigate.
