One man is dead and another charged with criminal homicide after a stabbing Thursday night in Pittsburgh’s Hill District.
Robert Tillman, 50, is accused of fatally stabbing Eddie Murrell, 53, in a fight that spilled out of their shared home in the 2700 block of Webster Avenue. Police were called just before 6 p.m.
Murrell was pronounced dead just minutes later.
In a criminal complaint, police cite surveillance footage from Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church that shows Tillman and Murrell locked in a physical struggle.
The video starts with Murrell backing out of the front door of the home appearing already injured and nearly falling down a set of steps, according to police.
Tillman then struck Murrell in the face twice, knocking him to the ground, the complaint states. Murrell stood back up and got on top of Tillman to restrain him, police said.
Murrell reached for his phone, which fell out of his hand earlier, but dropped it again, according to police. At that point, authorities said Tillman mounted Murrell and stabbed him twice in his torso.
He would go on to make 15 to 20 stabbing motions in less than a minute, according to police’s description of the video, before calling 911.
The complaint states Tillman was covered in blood when police arrived and was immediately detained. A bloody knife was also found nearby, police said.
He later admitted to stabbing Murrell multiple times, according to police.
Tillman was awaiting a preliminary hearing as of Friday morning.
He did not have an attorney listed in court records.
