Sprinting for sweets would have been a good motto for the 12th annual North Allegheny Foundation Trick or Trot 5K Race and 1-Mile Fun Run.
There were 671 registered participants this year, according to William Mascari, district liaison and the foundation’s communications coordinator.
“Guests enjoyed a morning of running, jogging, walking, community connections, raffle baskets, music, candy and fun. This event raised nearly $40,000, which benefits the NA Foundation’s mission of providing grants to teachers, awarding scholarships to graduating seniors and supporting families in need through Angel funds,” said Mascari, who also is the district liaison to the foundation.
There were plenty of treats for participants of the Oct. 25 fundraiser on the Marshall elementary and middle school campuses.
North Allegheny Elementary band instructor Daniel Klicker once again returned as the Trick or Trot DJ, spinning spooky tunes for the crowd. And the North Allegheny cheerleaders kept spirits high at the finish line.
Members of the North Allegheny band also performed, while decked out in costumes, before heading out to play in community Halloween parades, according to NA band director Emily Rickard. The students provided some festive music along with classic fall football favorites, she said.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the warm hospitality shown by each neighborhood, and the band is thrilled to be part of such a spirited community celebration,” Rickard said.
