Organizers of the 2023 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon are encouraging those thinking of registering for next year’s race to do so in the next few hours to save money.
On Oct. 27, the entry fee for the marathon will increase by $20, the price for the UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon will go up by $15, and the UPMC Health Plan/UPMC Sports Medicine Pittsburgh 5K registration will increase by $5.
All registered participants will receive a tech race shirt, personalized race bib and finisher’s medal.
The marathon and related events are scheduled for May 6-7.
“We want all movers, no matter their age and ability, to pick an event that is right for them, find inspiration to reach new fitness goals and move with us during our 15th anniversary,” Troy Schooley, CEO of marathon organizer P3R, said.
The Pittsburgh Marathon was held annually from 1985-2003. After a five-year hiatus, the event was relaunched in 2009 as the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon and debuted with a field of 10,000 participants.
It has grown in succeeding years and evolved from a single race day into a weekend of events, attracting nearly 40,000 runners.
After the covid-19 pandemic prevented the marathon from being an in-person event in 2020 and 2021, the marathon returned to in-person status in 2022 for the first time since 2019.
