The number of Allegheny County covid-19 patient hospitalizations has dropped by about 25% since last week, according to state Department of Health data.

There were 152 hospitalizations as of Tuesday, down 54 from Thursday when 206 covid patients were in the hospital.

Since hospitalizations peaked at 881 on Dec. 16, they have generally declined. Here’s a look at hospitalizations at the start of each month this year:

Jan. 1 — 697

Feb. 1 — 313

March 1 — 169

The county covid cases total grew to 77,053 with 200 additional cases (154 confirmed and 46 probable) reported Tuesday. Five of the past seven days have seen reported cases at or below 250 cases with Tuesday’s figures.

Dates of positive tests ranged from July 1, 2020, to Monday, with the county Health Department noting 15 tests were more than a week old. The older test results were previously known and addressed by the Health Department, the county said. New cases range in age from 8 months to 95, with a median age of 34.

One additional covid-related death was reported Tuesday, bringing the death total to 1,669. The individual was in their 60s and died Feb. 21, according to the county Health Department. The death was not associated with a long-term care facility.
