Allegheny County has 79 new coronavirus cases Thursday, according to the county Health Department.

Three new covid-19 deaths and three new hospitalizations were also reported.

Total cases are now 11,510, with total deaths now 366 and total hospitalizations at 1,099.

“Optimistically, while we’ve seen the numbers stabilize or are maybe a little bit up,” County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said Wednesday, “with all the activities that are occurring, I think we’re very pleased at where the numbers are right now for mid-September.”

The new cases came from 1,226 PCR tests taken from Aug. 30 to Sept. 16, with most coming between Sept. 10-16, the health department said. Four of the 79 cases are considered probable. Ages of new cases range from 2 to 100, with a median age of 38.

A breakdown of the age of new cases:

0-4 – 3

5-12 – 3

13-18 – 2

19-24 – 0

25-49 – 36

50-64 – 20

65+ – 15

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported there were 83 new cases for Allegheny County on Thursday, which differs from the number the county reported. No reason was given for the discrepancy

The new covid-19 deaths in Allegheny County are all 60 or older, with one in their 60s and two in their 70s. Dates of death range from Aug. 25 to Sept. 15. One death is associated with a long-term care facility.

Health Director Debra Bogen said Wednesday that about 20% of the new cases since the beginning of September have been connected to colleges and universities.

In Allegheny County, there are 47 covid-19 patients currently hospitalized, with eight on ventilators.

The county estimates 8,296 covid-19 cases have recovered.
