Allegheny County reports most new covid-19 deaths in a single day

Allegheny County saw a new high Friday for covid-19 deaths.

There were 26 deaths reported, according to the county Health Department. This comes a day after a previous high (20) for coronavirus-related deaths were reported Thursday.

Ages of new deaths are 50 and older, with two people in their 50s, two in their 60s, five in their 70s, six in their 80s and 11 in their 90s. Of the 26 deaths, 16 were associated with long-term care facilities. Dates of death range from Nov. 18 to Thursday.

There were also 911 new covid-19 cases reported in the county Friday, the second highest daily case count thus far.

New cases range in age from 1 month to 100 years old, with a median age of 43. Dates of positive tests range from Oct. 8 to Dec. 3, with the Health Department noting 33 positive tests are more than a week old.

Total cases and total deaths in Allegheny County are now 31,454 and 570, respectively.

As of Friday, there are 698 covid-19 patients hospitalized in Allegheny County, with 215 in the ICU and 104 on a ventilator, according to data from the state Department of Health.
