Allegheny County on Saturday recorded 85 new coronavirus cases.
The county now has a total of 11,663 cases of covid-19, according to the Allegheny County Health Department.
Among Saturday’s batch of newly reported cases, 69 were confirmed while 16 were listed as probable. The results came from tests conducted from Sept. 2-17.
The new cases range in age from 3 to 88 years, with a median age of 33.
Three new deaths were reported — one person in their 40s, one in their 70s and the third in their 90s. Two of those deaths were associated with a long-term care facility. The dates of death were Sept. 14 and 15. A total of 373 Allegheny County residents have covid-associated deaths.
The county added 52 new hospitalization cases to its total of 1,157, the second highest single-day increase since the pandemic began in March. According to the state covid website, there are currently 35 county residents in the hospital for the virus, with six of them on ventilators. According to that site, there are 820 ventilators in the county, with 176 currently in use (21.5%) for all illnesses.
Of the 39 females and 46 males that make up the newly announced cases, here is the age breakdown from the county:
- 00-04: 1
- 05-12: 2
- 13-18: 6
- 19-24: 21
- 25-49: 31
- 50-64: 13
- 65 and older: 11
Recent reports of new cases have been between 55 and 100 cases. Through the first three weeks of September, the county has seen two days of triple-digit cases — Sept. 3 and 11, when 105 and 100 cases were reported, respectively. Officials reported 68 cases Friday.
In August, the county saw four days of triple-digit case counts when 132, 100, 114 and 100 cases were reported Aug. 4, 6, 13 and 27, respectively.
Compare these past seven weeks to July, in which all but two days had more than 100 cases, with 17 days having 150 or more, nine days with more than 200 and a record-setting day of 331 cases on July 14.
Since Aug. 1, there have been 134 Allegheny County residents listed as having a covid-related death — just over 35% of the county’s total.
