Aquinas Academy mock trial team advances to states
Aquinas Academy of Pittsburgh’s high school mock trial team advanced to the state finals competition for the second consecutive year.
The Pennsylvania Mock Trial Competition is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. The competition gives more than 290 high school student teams from across the state the opportunity to act as lawyers and witnesses in simulated civil trials before actual judges and panels of juries. Lawyers volunteer to assist students as team advisors, scorekeepers and regional coordinators.”
Aquinas Academy, which has its campus in Hampton, was the local co-champion after winning four rounds of competitions against Fox Chapel, Mt. Lebanon, Allderdice, and Montour high schools, and qualifying as one of 14 teams for the State Finals.
Aquinas Academy’s mock trial team included then-seniors Isabel Giancola and Elizabeth Swift; juniors Anne Dolan, Vincenzo Flati, Lucy Fowler, Samuel McGowan, John Ortiz and Clara You; and sophomore Alexander Beaven. Timothy Waxenfelter has coached the team for four seasons.
