Technology in schools continues to evolve, and Carlynton officials are ready to meet tomorrow’s challenges today.

School board members approved the hiring of the district’s first supervisor of information technology at their meeting March 19. Joshua Jones was unanimously approved by the board to start the 12-month position on or before May 30, pending clearances.

In January, the board eliminated the position of director of technology and created a position that has more duties. The supervisor of information technology will work with all aspects of the district’s technology infrastructure, facilitate telecommunication systems and initiate technology projects. Jones will also provide day-to-day computer support, technology integration and staff development and training. He will work in all three district buildings.

Jones has worked in Ambridge Area School District as a professional employee for five years.

Jones said the school communities of Ambridge and Carlynton are alike.

“The environment is very similar. There is a family presence, and people care about the education of their kids,” Jones said.

More than 20 candidates applied for the position. The job has a salary of $65,000.

“We were looking for someone based on experience and who would be a good fit for our district,” Superintendent Joseph Dimperio. “For me, Joshua has a willingness to tackle any project.”
