Carlynton renews superintendent's contract, hires assistant superintendent
Carlynton School District has selected its top administrators for years to come.
Board directors on May 21 renewed Superintendent John Kreider’s contract for a term expiring June 30, 2029.
Also at the meeting, the board hired Norwin Superintendent Jeff Taylor as Carlynton’s assistant superintendent, effective July 1.
Board President James Schriver told school directors that the district has appreciated Kreider’s leadership, especially during the covid-19 pandemic.
According to the contract, Kreider’s salary is $190,000 for the 2024-25 school year. He could earn a 3% increase in years thereafter as long as he receives a minimum “satisfactory” rating on his annual performance assessment.
Taylor has served as Norwin’s superintendent since July 2019.
In recommending Taylor for the position, Kreider told the school board prior to its vote that Taylor has a “distinguished background in education and leadership.”
“Dr. Taylor’s skills and background provide a great fit for the Carlynton School District and great opportunity for us,” Kreider said.
During his tenure at Norwin, Kreider said Taylor led initiatives in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math programs, E-Sports and multimedia production, as well as significant advancements in sustainability and environmental literacy.
“His efforts resulted in the highest levels of student achievement in the history of the district,” Kreider said.
The assistant superintendent’s position at Carlynton was created in November as a result of the resignation of the director of curricular instruction and assessment, Kreider said.
The advertised salary range was between $115,000 and $135,000. The board did not announce Taylor’s salary when it hired him.
The board also hired Sarah Parish as the principal at Crafton Elementary School.
