Residents within the Carlynton School District will see an increase in taxes for the 2021-22 school year.

On June 22, Carlynton School Board approved the final balanced general budget of $30,879,655.

The millage rate for 2020-21 was 25.7891. Superintendent John Kreider said the 2021-2022 millage will increase by .9541, for a total of to be 26.7432 mills.

A property valued at $150,000 will see an increase of $11.93 a month.

According to Kreider, the increase comes from the rise in Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS) contributions — and that this has been an ongoing challenge for many schools districts. In addition to PSERS contributions, employee benefit rates and charter school tuition continue to increase.

“We recently identified significant capital improvement projects that must be completed in the next few years, such as windows at the elementary schools, a new roof at the high school and improvements to our technology infrastructure,” Kreider said.

Kredier also said the school district saw the effectiveness of the Allegheny Health Network’s CHILL Programming at Carnegie Elementary School and wanted to expand that to students at the junior-senior high school.

“As a district, we are committed to looking beyond the current fiscal year to sustain the services we provide to our community,” he said.
