Carnegie Elementary teachers got a nice surprise when they returned to school this fall.

The school accepted a $10,000 donation from Subaru of South Hills, sponsored by the Subaru Loves Learning Adopt a Classroom program.

The donation will be used to purchase classroom supplies for teachers, said Principal Jenna Mozzocio.

“It’s also coupled with high quality supply kits,” Mozzocio said. “This partnership comes on the wheels of really reenergizing the work we’ve been doing.

“It was a really positive way to capitalize the beginning of the school year.”

Mike Pirih, general sales manager of Subaru of South Hills, said he’s thrilled about the partnership.

“We wanted to make sure that we selected a local school district where we could make a difference for the kids in our own community and directly give back to the people who have supported us,” Pirih said.

“Beyond the materials and financial contributions, we’ve also offered our staff’s time volunteering at any future events where they could use extra hands. Subaru of South Hills is committed to our partnership with Carnegie Elementary School and look forward to making a difference in the lives of our South Hills community members.”

Mozzocio said the partnership is another way the community has bought into the school’s initiatives, which include a Matt’s Makerspace classroom debuted last spring.

“It’s a new-formed relationship with them on how we can best support the needs of our students,” she said.

“It can serve as a model of how you can support students when funding isn’t enough — state or federally.”
