Chartiers Valley applies for state funding to replace intermediate school roof

The Chartiers Valley School District is seeking state funding to replace the roof at its intermediate school.
School directors on May 28 applied for the state’s competitive Public School Facility Improvement grant to pay for the project.
The district is asking for just under $3.97 million to cover the total cost of the project, said Pat Connolly, the district’s director of finance and operations.
“The CVIS roof was installed during original construction, which was 1956,” Connolly said. “It was last repaired in 2001 with a new layer of roofing composite placed on top of the previous roof.
“We continue to maintain it and repair it as needed.”
Connolly said the district is pursuing state funding for the the roof project because it aligns with the grant criteria.
If the district is awarded the full amount it applied for, its share would be 25% of that, which is $991,750.
Applications were due May 31. The grant program guidelines do not specify when applicants will be informed of awards.
