A new event at Chartiers Valley High School provided students the opportunity to learn more about their peers’ cultures.

The high school celebrated Dress Your Culture day Dec. 16. It featured a live cultural museum.

Students and teachers were encouraged to sign up and prepare a table to share items that represent their culture.

Assistant Principal Kristi Schmitt said students explored displays showcasing different cultures, learned more about their peers and teachers and experienced different traditions from around the world.

“This event was a wonderful way for our students and staff to get to share their cultures with everyone and to celebrate the cultural diversity of our student body,” Schmitt said. “Students enjoyed visiting the ‘Live Cultural Museum’ to learn more about their classmates while immersing themselves in different cultures’ traditions, including food samples and live music.”

More than 15 cultures were represented, and Schmitt said she hopes the tradition grows every year moving forward.

Junior Charmi Nallanchakravarthula , who helped coordinate the event, said Dress Your Culture day was special to her.

She was thrilled to see the diversity of students and staff.

“Our student body enjoyed experiencing the art, festivity and flavors of many cultures around the world through our first annual ‘Live Cultural Museum,’” she said.

“…It made me overjoyed to see so many people proud of their roots and what represents them.”
