Carlynton School District officials are launching a program designed to give students a better understanding of artificial intelligence through experiments with holographic technology.
The district was awarded a $5,000 grant from Remake Learning for its “Project HOLO” — Holographic Opportunities for Learning Outcomes — said Assistant Superintendent Jeff Taylor.
“This project represents the future of learning,” Taylor said. “By combining artificial intelligence with holographic technology, our students will not only gain valuable technical skills but also learn to think creatively and critically about how technology can be used responsibly.
“Project HOLO will empower our students to see themselves as creators, innovators and leaders in tomorrow’s workforce.”
Taylor said that, through Project HOLO, seventh through 12th grade students will gain hands-on experience with holographic fan displays and learn to create interactive, 3D holograms using AI-powered tools, such as ChatGPT and DALL-E.
The goal is to integrate science, technology, engineering, art and math with storytelling and ethical AI use, Taylor said. It will give students an opportunity to develop real-world skills and explore careers.
Carlynton will use the grant money to buy a holographic fan unit and supporting software and to begin a pilot program with a small group of students, Taylor said.
The pilot will serve as a test for potential future expansion.
