Road improvement projects in Collier and North Fayette townships and Oakdale Borough will cause temporary road closures.
Thoms Run Road will close just east of the intersection with K P Hollow Road in Collier Township starting at 7 a.m. Monday. The closure, which is expected to last at least a week, is required for a slope repair, according to the Allegheny County Department of Public Works.
Traffic will be detoured using Thoms Run, Oakdale Road, Hilltop Road and Forsythe Road.
The work is part of an ongoing project that also requires short stoppages in work zones from Forsythe Road to about 600 feet west of Dutch Hill Road for drainage repairs, base repairs, and milling and paving. Additionally, there will be two more upcoming closures.
Starting in June, part of the 5100 block of Thoms Run Road will close for construction of two support walls. Traffic will be detoured using Thoms Run, Oakdale Road, Hilltop Road and Forsythe Road.
Starting in July, Thoms Run Road will close just west of the intersection with Forsythe Road for replacement of Chartiers Creek Bridge No. 23. Traffic will be detoured using Prestley Road, Washington Avenue (Route 50), Millers Run Road (Route 50), and Presto-Sygan Road.
All homes and businesses along the affected sections of Thoms Run Road will be accessible throughout the closures, which are not expected to overlap.
Public Works will announce the exact start dates for the upcoming closures closer to when they are expected to begin. That information will be provided to the public via press release, Facebook, Twitter and Allegheny Alerts.
The project is being done by Northeast Paving, a division of Eurovia Atlantic Coast, LLC, of Pittsburgh, as part of the $10.7 million 2019 Capital Roads contract.
Improvement work on Noblestown Road (Route 3048) in North Fayette and Collier townships and Oakdale Borough also will begin Monday, weather permitting.
Noblestown Road will close to traffic between Gregg Station Road and Nike Site Road at approximately 9 a.m. Monday to allow work to begin on a slide near Pinkerton Run Road. The roadway will remain closed around-the-clock through mid-August, according to PennDOT District 11. Traffic will be detoured.
The posted detour west of the slide:
• From Noblestown Road, turn left onto Route 978 (Union Avenue)
• Turn left onto Thoms Run and Oakdale Road
• Turn left onto Nike Site Road
• Follow Nike Site Road back to Noblestown Road
• End detour.
The detour east of the slide will be the same in the opposite direction.
The $4.37 million project also includes milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, base repairs, sub-grade undercuts and other miscellaneous construction activities on Noblestown Road between Union Avenue and the northbound I-79 on-ramp.
Single-lane alternating traffic controlled by flaggers will occur on Noblestown Road weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and weeknights from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through late December.
Mele & Mele & Sons is the primary contractor.
