Bridgeville is eyeing a fix to a borough road damaged by a landslide this spring.

Council on Oct. 14 authorized the public bid of a slope stabilization and retaining wall improvements project on Bluff Street Extension.

A tentative bid opening is scheduled for Nov. 6.

Borough Manager Joe Kauer said the project was needed after a small landslide occurred on a portion of the street this spring, affecting a home in the 700 block of Bower Hill Road.

“The project will construct a retaining wall at the base of the hill and restore the slope,” Kauer said.

Kauer hopes construction will start in late November and last only a couple of weeks.

No roads will be closed during construction.

Kauer did not have an anticipated cost for the project.

Also at the meeting, Bridgeville Council:

  • Set the 2025 budget meeting for 7 p.m. on Nov. 4, in Council Chambers.
  • Authorized borough officials to apply for a Statewide Local Share Assessment grant for the Chartiers Park Lighting Improvements Project. The borough in September applied for funding from the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County for the project. At that time, Kauer said the ballfield lighting on both baseball fields are antiquated and inefficient; and that the borough will apply to multiple funding sources for assistance.
  • Accepted the resignation of Lisa Adams from the Civil Service Commission. Adams resigned because she no longer resides within the borough. Council thanked Adams for her service.
  • Authorized Council President Joseph Verduci to execute the “Acknowledgement of Appraisal of Permit Conditions” and “Water Obstruction and Encroachment Permit Completion Report” forms from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for the construction of Phase 1A of the McLaughlin Run Flood Control Project.
  • Accepted the lowest responsible bid from Edge AI Solutions, of Homestead, for $68,000 for the 2024 Sanitary Sewer O&M CCTV Program.
