South Fayette commissioners recently awarded this year’s street paving program to Wampum-based Youngblood Paving.
Township documents show the company was the lowest of five bidders at about $1.4 million including three alternate streets added to the base repair list. The project includes about 30 streets and several alleys.
“They did a wonderful job last year (and) we’re excited they were the lowest bidder on the project,” commission president Gwen Rodi said of the company.
Township manager John Barrett said Morgan Excavating was also among the recommended companies, but its bids on the alternate roads pushed the overall costs beyond Youngblood’s offer.
Youngblood’s contract also fit within the township’s $1.5 million paving budget, Barrett said.
The vote was 3-0 at April’s meeting with vice president Joseph Horowitz and commissioner Lisa Malosh absent.

Township roads had fallen into such disrepair over the years commissioners had Lennon, Smith, Souleret Engineering to do a roadway maintenance study, which was released in 2015, in order to craft a 10-year street improvement plan.
The study is available on the “Roads & Traffic” section of the township’s website, southfayettepa.com.
