Editor’s note: The North Allegheny Journal is publishing election previews with candidate interviews for contested municipal and school board races only. The preview for the contested North Allegheny School Board race and two town council races in McCandless are running in the April 27 edition. Stories about contested races for two District Justice positions, one based in Sewickley and the other based in Wexford, will appear May 4.

Candidates are running in the May primary to win their party’s nomination for a spot on the ballot in the November General Election.

While McCandless has GOP contests for council seats representing Ward 1 and Ward 5, there are no contested races in Wards 3 and 7.

In Marshall Township, the only candidate running for a GOP nomination for supervisor is Republican incumbent Jason Bragunier. There are no Democrats listed on the ballot.

For Franklin Park council, each party is to nominate one candidate from each of three wards. There is only one declared Democratic candidate and one declared Republican candidate in each ward.

In Ward 1, the candidates are: Douglas Kush, Republican; Jiang Li, Democrat.

In Ward 2, the candidates are: Mark Butterfield, Republican; Laura E. Czekaj, Democrat.

In Ward 3, the candidates are: Timothy J. Ireland, Republican; Brian Samuel Malkin, Democrat

In Bradford Woods, voters are to choose three nominees from each party for council. Republican Christopher Mansfield has no GOP opponent. Democrat Todd Hipwell has no Democratic opponent. No candidate is listed on the Primary ballot seeking the nomination for the third seat.
