Traffic on Parkway West southbound near Thoms Run Road was at a standstill Tuesday morning.

Most sections of I-79 and the Parkway West near the Bridgeville area are open and clear after nearly a dozen crashes snarled traffic on those highways during the Tuesday morning commute.

Pennsylvania State Troopers said in a statement Tuesday morning that there may be some residual traffic and advised drivers to stay alert of road conditions and PennDOT or tow truck crews on the road shoulders.

Among the more major incidents, a multi-vehicle crash just before 7 a.m. on Interstate 79 southbound at the Carnegie exit closed all lanes for a time, according to PA511.

Backups from the closure spilled onto the Parkway West.

Another multi-vehicle crash around 7:30 a.m. on I-79 southbound at Exit 54 (PA 50, Bridgeville) left all lanes closed. Crews worked to clear the vehicles and reopened the lanes just before 9 a.m.

PA511 showed at least three other crashes along I-79 were also impacting traffic.

Meanwhile, there were also overturned vehicles on both sides of the Parkway West near Pittsburgh International Airport.

The crashes slowed down traffic in both the westbound and eastbound lanes.

The eastbound crash happened between Pittsburgh International Airport and McClaren Road.

Several other incidents were reported along the Parkway West and on Route 30 near the Oakdale exit.
