For many Hampton youngsters, the Easter Bunny is but a distant, hazy memory, or one they don’t have at all.

Because of the covid-19 pandemic, it’s been a few years since everyone’s favorite furry friend was able to visit. That changes April 9, when the township’s traditional egg hunt returns with its special guest at the forefront.

The free event is scheduled from 1 to 3 pm in Hampton Community Park for children ages 10 and under. Participants can bring their own Easter baskets to collect eggs.

Featured along with the hunt and the Easter Bunny’s appearance are face painting, a petting zoo and plenty of delicious refreshments. The event will be held outdoors near the Orchard-Ling pavilion and grounds, rain or shine.

To ensure that enough eggs are in place for youngsters to find, participants are asked to register beforehand. The day of the event, all pre-registered participants must check in at the registration table, where they will be given tickets indicating the time slots for their hunts. Times will be based on a first-come, first-served basis at the event and cannot be requested prior.

Guests are asked to park their vehicles in the Hampton Community Center lots, to help maximize safety by limiting traffic in the event area.

To help keep everything running smoothly during event day, adult volunteers are needed from noon to 4 p.m., to “mainly help with setting up the egg area, refilling the egg area and assisting our guests with registration check-in,” according to Melanie Martino, township coordinator of special events and marketing. And of course, taking care of all the necessities at the end always is appreciated.
