Etna’s main business corridor will be bustling with art, music and dance for the borough’s seventh annual Art Tour.
Hosted in person after a covid-19-related hiatus last year, the event will be 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday Sept. 25 along Butler Street.
“We think this shows our community’s resilience to continue its traditions of supporting the arts and local businesses in a really tough time,” said Megan Tunon, executive director of the Etna Community Organization.
Visitors to past art tours have been able to peek into about 100 artist studios, Tunon said, but most are closed due to pandemic concerns.
“It’s amazing because you don’t even know that they are here; they’re just tucked away inside the old buildings and warehouses,” she said
“As such, we’ve significantly expanded what we are doing outdoors and we think we’ll have a really fun and safe event.”
After a virtual event last year, Tunon expects that people who attend will be eager to browse and mingle. Two stages will be set up and there will be a mix of live bands, dance performances and brass/drum groups.
The line-up includes Jane West, Art in Motion Pittsburgh, Gabriella Salvucci, Colonel Eagleburger’s Highstepping Goodtime Band, Rocket Loves Blue, Cisco Kid, Ideal Dance, Truth and Rites, Timbeleza and Pittsburgh Samba Group.
Butler Street will be closed to traffic to allow people to enjoy artist booths.
Tunon hopes the crowd will stop and support local businesses, which she said have suffered over the past year.
“We’ve made investments in our main business corridor in terms of the streetscape, stormwater management and new (storefronts), but our businesses are just now starting to bounce back,” she said.
“The Art Tour is often their best night of business throughout the whole year, so we recognize the importance of hosting the event.”
