4 win both parties’ nods for Hampton Township School Board
Three Hampton Township School Board members and one newcomer captured both major parties’ nominations in the May 16 primary, and each will appear as a Democrat and Republican on general election ballots.
Incumbents Matthew A. Jarrell (1,377 Democratic votes; 878 Republican) and Robert J. Shages (1,331; 835) and Joy Midgley (1,028; 930) finished among both top fives, as did Maureen Farrell Perkins (1,055; 808), according to unofficial Allegheny County results,
Trisha Marie Webb, another incumbent, led Democratic candidates with 1,597 votes and will represent that party in November. Jenny L. Kennedy will appear on the ballot as a Republican after garnering 608 GOP primary votes.
Candidate Byron P. Hannah II did not receive enough votes to qualify for the general election on either ticket to run for five available seats. All primary candidates ran cross-filed, as Democrats and Republicans.
Primary races for Hampton Township Council were unopposed. In November, Richard “Rock” Kernick, an incumbent, and Peter Catone are running as Democrats, and Daniel J. Sciulli and Alfred Midgley IV, Republican.
Jerry E. Speakman ran unopposed as a Republican in the primary for reelection as controller. No Democrat was on the ballot.
