Members of the Aspinwall Fire Department didn’t win a trip to Disney, but got the next best thing through a Mickey Mouse-themed raffle.

Aspinwall Neighborhood Watch raised more than $1,700 for the fire department by raffling Walt Disney World park hopper tickets. It was the first of a series of four raffles and concluded with a Christmas Day drawing.

Nearly 350 tickets were sold.

Money will be used toward the purchase of new equipment for the department, Fire Chief Gene Marsico said.

“We don’t have it earmarked for anything specific, but maybe a new carbon monoxide detector,” he said.

The park hopper tickets were donated to Neighborhood Watch through the Points of Light Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program, which rewards nonprofits and schools with Disney one-day park hoppers for engaging families in volunteering.

ANW received 20 tickets and plans a series of raffles to raise money for their group, in addition to Aspinwall’s first responders — Aspinwall VFD, Aspinwall Police Department and Foxwall EMS, member Sarah Shaffer said.

Tickets for the next raffle went on sale Jan.15, with the drawing to be held on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17.

Foxwall EMS will be the beneficiary of the next raffle.

A Memorial Day drawing will benefit Neighborhood Watch and the borough police.

A final drawing will be on Labor Day and will benefit ANW’s National Night Out Fundraiser. Tickets for the final drawing will be on sale during the 10th annual National Night Out event on Aug. 6.
