Blawnox residents now can dispose of hard-to-recycle items as part of the borough’s garbage hauling contract.

A new program launched this month allows residents to get rid of TVs, computers, chemicals and other products typically prohibited from regular collections.

Borough leaders said the “At Your Door” pickups are part of the contract with Waste Management. Residents pay $58 per quarter for the 2019 contract.

The new collections are specifically for household-generated special materials, Manager John Stinner said.

“It’s hard to dispose of TVs and other things like that, so we thought this would be really helpful for residents,” Secretary Kathy Ulanowicz said.

Collections are offered year-round but residents have to call first and schedule a pickup.

Items accepted include automotive products, paint, garden chemicals, VCRs, computers and fluorescent tubes, among others.

Among the products not accepted are medicine, asbestos, tires and e-cigarettes.

Residents can request multiple collections throughout the year, and a kit will be mailed to their home each time for fill-up.

To schedule, visit wmatyourdoor.com or call 1-800-449-7587.
