Don’t be bugged by the return of the 17-year cicadas.
Instead, visit Cooper-Siegel Community Library’s program on the loud insects that emerged from underground this summer.
“Bugs & Insects” will be presented by Allegheny County Parks on June 19.
The session aimed at children in grades one to four will be 11 a.m. to noon.
It is free.
“Our area is being invaded by 17-year cicadas and we are dealing with the ongoing challenge of deer ticks in our community,” Children’s Department Head Susan Herald said.
“Join us to learn more about these fascinating insects.”
County Parks staff will present a lesson on the different species of bugs found locally, why they are important to the environment and what roles they play.
Children will get an up-close peek of the insect specimen collection, Herald said.
