• Shamrock-n-Roll, 6:30-8 p.m. March 6

You’ve heard of TEDTalks? Same kind of thing but for rock music! It’s a new way to learn/think/talk about music and so much more! It’s history, science, literature, pop culture and humor. Enjoy this Rock Talk specifically about Irish music. Great for fans of Thin Lizzy and other bands from the Emerald Isle.

Erik Selinger has more than 30 years of experience in secondary education. He’s taught chemistry, advanced placement chemistry, organic chemistry, and forensic science. He retired from the Franklin Regional School District in 2020. He’s a lifelong fan of rock music and his personal preferences tend toward heavy metal, punk, classic and indie rock, but he’s knowledgeable about most types of rock. He loves reading history, science, biographies, science fiction, fantasy and horror, and he’s lectured all around the county.

Registration required.

Adults

• Author Talk: Cody McDevitt, 6:30-8 p.m. Feb. 26

Join author Cody McDevitt as he shares more about his book, “Banished from Johnstown: Racist Backlash in Pennsylvania.” In 1923, in response to the fatal shooting of four policemen, the mayor of Johnstown ordered every African American and Mexican immigrant who had lived in the city for less than seven years to leave. They were given less than a day to move or would face crippling fines or jail time and were forced out at gunpoint. An estimated 2,000 people uprooted their lives in response to the racist edict. Area Ku Klux Klan members celebrated the creation of a “sundown town” and increased their own intimidation practices. Figures such as Marcus Garvey spoke out in Pittsburgh against it as newspapers throughout the country published condemnations.

This program is generously funded by the Rotary Club of Fox Chapel Area.

Register online or call the library at 412-781-0783.
