Fox Chapel Council on Monday night added some work to the borough’s 2020 road paving list.
Members voted to add Dogwood Lane to the road improvements after saying the money was available.
“When we initially awarded the contract, covid-19 just hit and we were concerned about funding,” manager Gary Koehler said.
The borough’s total paving contract is about $1.2 million, after having begun at just about $411,000. Tresco Paving was awarded the work.
Westport, Shirl, Twin Stream and Fairview roads were on the list this year. In addition, Foxhurst Drive, Dogwood Lane and a portion of Windsor Road are scheduled to be completed in the coming weeks.
In other news, borough officials were notified that the municipality earned $100,000 to help with the costs of the new public works garage.
The grant comes through the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
Council is in the midst of a potential $5 million, multi-year project to replace the public works facilities.
Council also said it expects to hear results of a task force researching use of the word “squaw” in borough parks and roads by the regular Nov. 16 meeting.
Council in August said a 15-member committee would reach out to residents of Squaw Run and Squaw Run East for input.
Other objectives of the task force include reviewing the request to rename roads, a trail and waterway and recommending potential new names that have historical meaning.
Councilmember Mandy Steele said she hopes to discuss the results a bit sooner, possibly at the borough’s business meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 19.
