Fox Chapel Area School District officials voted at a special meeting Jan. 30 to approve changes to Deputy Superintendent David McCommons’ contract, giving the board an extra 60 days to consider keeping him beyond his current pact.

McCommons’ contract was set to expire June 30.

District officials said the contract requires the board to give notice no later than 150 days prior to contract expiration whether it intends to renew the contract by three to five years.

If the board had failed to give such a public notice, the contract would automatically renew for a year.

The deadline to give notice had been Jan. 31. The modification to McCommons’ contract gives the board until April 1 to make a decision before an automatic renewal.

McCommons’ annual salary is $219,148. He has been with the district since 2007 and served as deputy superintendent since 2017.

Editor’s note: This version updates McCommons’ salary and provides additional information.
