Fox Chapel Area Lead Principal Michael Hower described senior Justin Breen as charismatic and hard-working.
It doesn’t seem to have been a stretch.
Breen, 18, earned a full-ride scholarship to attend Texas A&M University in the fall.
“I’m very thankful to have earned this great honor that will change my life forever,” Breen said.
The Brockman Scholarship is merit-based and covers five years of school on the College Station campus — four years of payment for undergrad and a one-year MS Business graduate degree program at Texas A&M’s Mays Business School.
Breen was selected among 50 recipients. He plans to study computer engineering.
The Indiana Township teen said his accomplishments would not have been possible without help from district teachers and counselors.
During his time at Fox Chapel Area, Breen qualified as a National Merit Finalist from among 1.6 million students who took the preliminary tests.
Breen also volunteered for the high school’s community outreach club, which hosts fundraisers for local groups in need. At Christmas, for example, the club collected toys for patients at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
“Justin is a true leader in our school,” Hower said. “I am very excited for him and look forward to learning of his future successes.”
Breen and other scholarship recipients also will have a chance to enhance their development through the Brockman Scholars Program, which is designed specifically to advocate for students talented in STEM areas and enhance entrepreneurship through a business component.
