Although its doors have been closed during the pandemic, the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania is taking orders for native plants from its nurseries and bird seed that it will deliver to area homes.
Audubon offers more than 70 species of native plants that attract birds, butterflies and a range of pollinators.
Audubon’s nursery at its Beechwood Farms headquarters in Fox Chapel is closed to the public, although the facility’s trails are still open.
Native plants provide safe places for wildlife to stop and refuel and can attract a number of creatures on the wing, according to Audubon.
Unlike plants grown in big-box stores, native plants are adapted to local conditions, so they’re relatively easy to grow and do not require pesticides or fertilizers. Learn more about native plants and delivery options from the Audubon’s website at pa.audubon.org.
