Grant to help with Aspinwall sewer line project

An Allegheny County grant worth $85,000 will cover the gap in cost for a major storm sewer line project in Aspinwall.
The borough was awarded the money through the county’s Community Infrastructure and Tourism Fund (CITF), Manager Melissa Lang said.
Aspinwall previously earned $477,000 through ALCOSAN’s Green Revitalization of Our Waterways, or GROW program, for the project.
Work is expected to begin in September.
“The borough pays nothing toward the match for this work,” Lang said.
The Center Avenue project will create a separate storm sewer lines in an effort to alleviate sewer backups after heavy rain.
Specifically, new storm sewers will be installed and catch basins will be rerouted away from the existing combined system.
It is the second major sewer project this year in the borough.
Similar work along Eastern Avenue was completed in spring.
That $550,000 project was aimed at easing overflows along Eastern Avenue by creating separate storm and sewer lines. Work targeted Third Street to Freeport Road.
Costs were largely paid by a $433,000 grant from ALCOSAN.
