Free camp aims to boost mental health of middle school students
Camp Lucy, a groundbreaking mental health conference tailored for middle school students, is coming to Camp Guyasuta in May.
The free event, hosted by Listen, Lucy, is led by mental health advocate and Pittsburgh native Jordan Corcoran. It aims to empower students with resilience-building tools in a supportive and fun environment.
The camp will run from 7:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 8 at Camp Guyasuta – Boy Scouts of America, 300 23rd Street Ext.
Breakfast, lunch and snacks are included with registration. Each participant will receive a Camp Lucy T-shirt.
The camp will offer inspiring workshops, expert speakers and practical coping techniques.
Camp Lucy is free for schools to attend, thanks to months of fundraising efforts, grant applications and collaborations with various organizations. Because only 200 tickets are available, camp organizers encourage each school district to register five to 10 students to ensure widespread participation.
The lineup of speakers include Julius Boatwright, founder and managing director of Steel Smiling; Ta’lor Pinkston, Creator of The Heart Advocate; Julia Broglie, co-founder of BroglieBox; and Gab Bonesso, recognized as a top 100 speaker on mental resilience.
