Homecoming festivities set

Fox Chapel Area’s 2023 homecoming football game will be played Friday, Sept. 29. The Foxes will play the North Hills Indians at 7 p.m. at the high school stadium.

There will be a Community Carnival beforehand from 4 to 7 p.m. on the front lawn and front parking lot of the campus, 611 Field Club Road, in O’Hara. Most activities are free unless otherwise indicated. Activities will include games, a giant slide and bouncy houses. There will be a free petting zoo — including a baby zebra and camel — and the animals can be fed for a small cost. Students and faculty will provide live music, and there food trucks will be available.

The senior members of the 2023 homecoming court are Alyssa Berardi, Fiona Brown, Dylan Byersdorfer, Alexander Kaufmann, Isabella Marcos, Jack O’Brien, Benedetta Pacini and Eliott Stephany. The court will be introduced at 6:30 p.m., and the homecoming king and queen will be crowned during halftime.

Parking will be available at the high school, with overflow parking at nearby O’Hara Elementary School, 115 Cabin Lane. A shuttle will be available beginning around 4:30 p.m. Additional overflow parking and a shuttle will be located at the Lauri Ann West Community Center, 1220 Powers Run Road, once the O’Hara Elementary School parking lot is full. Shuttle service will be provided at the end of the game for anyone parking in the overflow lots.

The community is invited to attend the homecoming game festivities. Game admission is $3 for students and $5 for adults. Everyone entering the stadium must have a ticket. To purchase single-game tickets or season passes, visit the online box office at www.fcasdathletics.org/tickets or download the HomeTown Fan app, available via the App Store and Google Play. Note that a convenience fee will be added to the cost of each ticket purchased online. Tickets purchased online can be redeemed at the gate via email or the HomeTown Fan app. Tickets also will be available for sale at the gate payable by cash or credit card. There will be a convenience fee of 25 cents for each ticket purchased via credit card at the gate. Admission is free for district senior citizens who have a Gold Card.

The homecoming activities are coordinated and sponsored by the high school’s student activities department and the Fox Leadership Council.

Billy Price concert to aid ALS research

The Go-Getters for Bob Letters is sponsoring a concert by the Billy Price Band at 7 p.m. Oct. 6 to raise money for the ALS Association.

The fundraiser will be held at the Comfort Inn & Suites in RIDC Park, 180 Gamma Drive, O’Hara. All of the proceeds will benefit the ALS Association.

Letters, who owned Letters Roofing in Sharpsburg, died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2021. ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, gradually robbing its victims of the ability to speak, eat, move and breathe.

The Go-Getters for Bob Letters is the name of the walk team raising money for the association in Letters’ memory.

Community invited to blood drive

Fox Chapel Area High School is holding a community blood drive from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 18.

The blood drive will be in the large group instruction room at the high school. Everyone 16 and older is encouraged to donate.

Vitalant again is offering several scholarships to area high school students. To qualify for the scholarships, Fox Chapel Area High School is hosting several blood drives throughout the 2023-24 school year.

The scholarships will be awarded for the highest percent participation and the largest number of registered donations for the year. Additionally, anyone who donates blood at a local donor center can ask for the donation to count toward Fox Chapel Area High School’s total using the code UHS010025.

The 2023 graduates who received scholarships were Alexander Macek, Molly McNaughton and Violet O’Connell.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood, visit vitalant.org, call 1-877-25VITAL or use Vitalant’s mobile app; the school’s group code is UHS010025. Students also can arrange an appointment with school counselor Rachel Machen. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins also are welcome.

The blood drive is being coordinated by the community outreach committee of the high school’s Fox Leadership Council.

Honor students to host Boo Bash

National Honor Society students at Fox Chapel Area High School will sponsor their annual Boo Bash on Oct. 28. The Halloween celebration is for children in pre-kindergarten through third grade. Participants will trick-or-treat through the halls of the high school, engage in fun games and activities, and show off their costumes.

The Boo Bash will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the high school. The event is free, but nonperishable food and monetary donations are suggested for several local charities, including Fox Families Care, Second Harvest, Backpack for Hunger and Roots of Faith. The donations will be accepted at the door.

Items needed include single-serve breakfast cereal; cans of soup, ravioli and spaghetti; applesauce pouches; peanut butter singles or jars; boxed or single mac & cheese; protein bars; and single-serve snack packs.

Parents or guardians should park at the back of the school near the tennis courts and use the athletics/fox statue entrance. Children must be accompanied by an adult during the event and should bring a bag for their treats.
