Aspinwall Council has a new vice president.
Lara Voytko was unanimously appointed to the leadership position at an agenda meeting March 1.
“It gives me great pleasure to have the confidence of council,” Voytko said. “I look forward to working with everybody. We all work together very well. This is just the next step.”
A 1987 Fox Chapel Area grad, Voytko has been on council since 2017. She is the chair of the infrastructure committee.
“We’re starting to work cross-committee on some of the big projects in the town,” Voytko said. “There’s a lot of big ticket items with the water (system) and other improvements that need to be done jointly between committees. Everything is tied together with finance and livability within the town.”
Other projects being discussed by borough leaders include paving, park and sewer system upgrades.
Voytko has lived in the borough since 1995. She works as a sales specialist for Leica Biosystems.
“Lara’s been here a while,” council President Tim McLaughlin said. “She’s done a great job on infrastructure. It will be nice to have her leading the charge, running meetings when I’m not here.”
Council does not normally vote at its agenda/workshop sessions, but felt the need to move forward with solidifying its organization prior to this month’s voting meeting March 8.
Council had been without a vice president for more than two months due to the resignation of Councilman Dave Borland mid-December. Borland stepped down after announcing he was moving out of the borough.
In other matters
• Mayor Joe Noro announced the police department has begun speed checks along Center Avenue and Guyasuta Road.
They hope the efforts will slow down aggressive drivers.
Officers are also increasing enforcement of parking meters and other parking restrictions.
• Eddie Watters, Kevin Kerr and Gary Britcher were reappointed to the Civil Service Commission at the March 1 meeting.
Watters is expected to remain commission chairman. Kerr and Britcher are alternates.
