Good news for folks who like to get their early morning exercise on.
Lauri Ann West Community Center is rolling back its hours so that doors open at 5:30 a.m. weekdays.
New hours begin Sept. 3.
“We heard the feedback, and we know that people like to come to the center before they start their work day,” Jamie Rhoades, director of development, said.
The center is at 1220 Powers Run Road in O’Hara. It serves the municipalities in the Fox Chapel Area School District.
The 28,000-square-foot center offers pickleball courts, a gymnasium and an after-school arts and enrichment program that serves dozens of children each day.
With fall programming starting up, there will be an array of classes from ballet and bridge to animal art and silly science as well.
Traditionally, the center has opened at 6 a.m.
Rhoades said members made a strong push to dial it back, if even by a bit.
“We understand that people like to come early in the morning,” she said.
At that time of day, the fitness center is the most used space in the building by many of the center’s 5,000-plus members. The fitness center daily usage rates have increased by 22 percent a day this year, she said.
“Early mornings are always busy, and it’s important to us that we listen to feedback,” she said.
“We want to give people more time to work out before they start the work day.”
Hours throughout the rest of the week will be 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays; 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays; 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
