Lauri Ann West Community Center opened its doors Monday to visitors eager to return to a “sense of normalcy,” leaders said.

New hours for the facility along Powers Run Road in O’Hara will be 6 to 8 p.m. weekdays, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays.

“During our closure we heard from so many people that they are most looking forward to coming back and seeing the people that they’ve built connections with, like the staff and the members here,” said Jamie Rhoades, director of development. “I think people are also looking forward to just getting back into their old routines.”

The reopening comes after three months of closure to stem the spread of coronavirus. Center officials said there will be new guidelines that help continue to minimize risk for all ages.

Members will be required to pre-register for a one-hour time slot in Mindbody in order to use the fitness center. After each one hour session, the room will be closed for 30 minutes to be sanitized.

Visitors also will be asked to follow social distancing signs and arrive no more than 10 minutes before their scheduled class.

Masks are recommended, but not required, in the fitness center, gym, track and group exercise rooms.

Rhoades said the center will run a modified version of its popular summer camp, with reduced capacity to allow enough space between children.

Camps for children 5 to 7 are on a waiting list, but there are a few spots available in the 8-12 age group.

“It was important to us to provide this opportunity for local families to have an enriching experience after so many weeks spent at home without school and other activities,” Rhoades said.

“I think families are excited to be able to give their children an opportunity to socialize, learn and just have fun outside of the house.”

The center also will be ramping up its specialty offerings, with plans to host UK International Soccer later this month. Many program scheduled for June will be pushed to July. Pickleball sessions, for example, begin July 9.
