News briefs: Food drives, glass recycling and drug take-back days on tap
Aspinwall residents can discard unwanted or unused medication during National Drug Take Back Day.
It will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24 at the borough’s police station, 217 Commercial Ave.

Aspinwall expands trick-or-treat time
Trick-or-treat in Aspinwall will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.
The expanded time will accommodate people who choose to go out and collect candy early and those who prefer to go out when it gets dark, council members said.
It also aims to cut down on crowds and keep in line with social distancing guidelines.
There will be no costume parade this year because of covid-19 restrictions.

Glass recycling event planned in Tarentum
A glass recycling event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills in Tarentum.
People can drop off glass bottles, jars and jugs of all colors. Containers can be mingled but should be empty and rinsed.
Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Resources Council, the traveling glass recycling bin program serves residents in communities which no longer accept glass in curbside collections.
The free service will also be in Hampton from Oct. 10 to 15 and Plum from Oct. 24 to 29.

O’Hara to sponsor food drive Oct. 25
O’Hara will be sponsoring a BOOTASTIC touchless food drive from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 25 in the municipal parking lot along Fox Chapel Road.
Items to be collected include nonperishable items that may be used as side dishes for Thanksgiving, including vegetables, boxed stuffing, boxed potatoes, cranberry sauce and gravy.
Items will be given to a local food bank to help neighbors in need.
Anyone who wants to donate should follow the directional signs, park and place their items in the bed of the township trucks in the parking lot.
Staff members will be there to answer questions and provide touchless assistance. Everyone is asked to wear face coverings and social distance.
Treat bags will be available for children dropping off donations.

Century Club to host drive-thru dinner
The Glenshaw Century Club will host a drive-thru dinner fundraiser from 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 6.
Catered by Heavenly Cuisine, food will be available for pickup at Glenshaw Valley Presbyterian Church, 1520 Butler Plank Road, Glenshaw.
The menu is roasted turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, cranberry sauce, coleslaw and pumpkin pie.
The cost is $15 per meal.

Canned goods drive scheduled for Oct. 31
Sharpsburg residents can donated canned goods to help the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry during a collection Oct. 31 by the Western Pennsylvania Alumni Association of Alpha Phi Omega.
Members will go door-to-door to collect from 6 to 8 p.m. Particularly needed are Thanksgiving items, such as boxed stuffing, canned vegetables, cranberry sauce and potatoes.
To follow social distancing, donations can be placed on porches in marked bags.
