News briefs: Fox Chapel Area High School conducting summer blood drive Aug. 3

It is from 1 to 7 p.m. and aimed at people ages 16 and older.
Vitalant is offering several scholarships to area high school students. To qualify, Fox Chapel Area High School is hosting this summer blood drive and plans on sponsoring additional blood drives throughout the 2020-2021 school year.
Scholarships will be awarded for the highest percent participation and largest number of registered donations for the year. Anyone who donates blood at a local donor center can ask for the donation to count toward FCA’s total by specifying code HS010025.
Anyone interested in donating should visit vitalant.org and click on the “Donate Blood” button. Or, call 412-209-7000. Walk-ins are accepted.
Vitalant is now testing blood donations for covid-19 antibodies. Results can be viewed online in the donor’s account tw0 weeks after donating.

Kerr Elementary School in the Fox Chapel Area School District is seeking a community member to serve on the school’s site-based management team for a two-year term, starting Sept. 4.
The team helps make decisions concerning the operations of the school and meets monthly. The community representative must live in the Kerr attendance area and have no children currently attending any district schools.
Anyone interested must write a letter of interest postmarked on or before Aug. 14. Applicants will be selected by a lottery system.
Letters should be addressed to Principal Paul Noro, Ed.D., at: Kerr Elementary School, 341 Kittanning Pike, Pittsburgh, PA 15215. Letters of interest can also be emailed to Noro at paul_noro@fcasd.edu.

Fox Chapel brush collection is currently suspended due to covid-19.
The borough is asking residents to place their brush in wooded areas on their property instead.
